Well, the time has come. After years of commitment, planning, hoping and a few bumps along the way, Mom and Dad are off. I have heard them talk about this day since I was a little girl and I always knew they'd do it. They will be serving a two-year, full time mission starting in Argentina and then in Paraguay. If you think that's interesting, just wait until you hear the story. The story of the mission call is a great one! After much anticipation the call finally arrived. It was for Buenes Aires, Argentina, working specifically in the Perpetual Education Fund program there. Preparations began. At one point everything was pretty much settled and they even had housing arrangements (and had had the previous owners of the apartment they were buying over for dinner). Then three weeks before their report date they got a phone call from Church Headquarters. One morning, they met with Elder Cook who informed them of a slight change to their assignment and asked them if they wouldn't mind serving in and heading up the PEF program in Paraguay instead. Well, what do you say to a member of the Quorum of the Twelve? And new preparations began. New housing arrangements had to be made, more training had to be completed and even a new set of medical reviews and shots had to be done. It's been quite the month for Mom and Dad, but they've made it and are ready to begin a new adventure in their lives!
Mom and Dad's farewell talks will be held at their Coalville ward on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 11:00am. Lunch will be served afterwards at their home. Those attending have been asked to bring a salad to share.
